Réunion is a French island in the Indian Ocean, roughly 200 kilometres southwest of Mauritius, the closest neighboring country. Together with Mauritius, Saint Brandon and Rodrigues, forms part of the Mascarene Islands. Similar to the island of Hawaii, Réunion is situated above a so-called ‘hot spot’ in the Earth’s crust. The Piton de la Fournaise is an active volcano on Réunion and last erupted in January 2010.
Réunion, designated by Unesco as a world heritage site, enjoys a tropical climate. Réunion boasts 27 kilometres of warm beaches in the west and vast areas covered by mountains and forests that together offer a splendid variety for the discerning traveller. Parlez vous Francais?
